Organic hay and soil - where?

I'm new to Las Cruces and am getting my backyard ready for fall & winter gardens. With all the agriculture around this area, it's crazy that I'm having trouble finding certain things. I've made friends with a local organic gardener, but she seems to order many things (seeds, fertilizers, etc) from Peaceful Valley in Cali. I've gone into a few garden/plant shops to ask about local sources for products - one lady told me to check Walmart! That I won't do. I did, however, suck it up and bought a bunch of bags of organic compost at Home Depot - I couldn't find it anywhere else.

I'd like to get a 3-4 bales of hay to use for mulching and composting. Yes, I see all the hay being harvested right now on a bunch of farms south of Mesilla and signs offering hay for sale - but it's probably full of pesticides and I don't want to put that in my garden.

Any local sources for organic gardening stuff? I'm going to cross post this on the GardenWeb forums.

Thanks for any recommendations.
