Sago Palm

We have several sago palms and after a recent week of 117+ temps we fertilized/fed them. Well, one of them has all of a sudden nearly doubled in size with a beautiful new crown. However, it is in front of a window and is about to block the view. Can the top be trimmed?

Also, a couple of the pups have sprouted...can I plant these directly into my yard? Any tips?

Thanks!

RE: Sago Palm

On trimming-- you could certainly cut the leaves back, but if you cut the stem you'll probably kill it. Cycads don't re-sprout well when the growing tip of the stem is cut.

Outside planting-- sago palms are borderline in zone 8. If you protect them from winter extremes they might do fine.
