removing ivy

Hi, I am planning on having my ivy removed next weekend, and I wanted to know how long before I can plant anything. Maybe someone knows of a website that tells me step by step and how to prepare the soil as well.
I am leaving a large Yucca plant in the corner....is this a good idea? Thank you. |
