Cordyline Looking Like Palm

How can I keep my Red Cordylines from turning into what look like palm trees? Their sword-like leaves really hold the dark red color well even in full sun, but as I remove some of the ragged growth below they begin to look like something different altogether. Any thoughts? Thanks.

RE: Cordyline Looking Like Palm

Most Cordylines, with the possible exception of 'Festival Grass', will eventually develop at least a thin trunk. Try feeding them a little extra nitrogen to encourage basal offshoots. Even if it can't be like an ornamental grass, you may be able to make it bushy enough to hide the trunks.
Good luck! : )
