Cordyline Looking Like Palm

| How can I keep my Red Cordylines from turning into what look like palm trees? Their sword-like leaves really hold the dark red color well even in full sun, but as I remove some of the ragged growth below they begin to look like something different altogether. Any thoughts? Thanks. |

Most Cordylines, with the possible exception of 'Festival Grass', will eventually develop at least a thin trunk. Try feeding them a little extra nitrogen to encourage basal offshoots. Even if it can't be like an ornamental grass, you may be able to make it bushy enough to hide the trunks.
