Mealy bugs on Cacti..Whuz the best control?

| A week ago, I was given several pieces of a nifty hardy cactus. Having planted quite a few cacti and succulents in our newish Las Cruces landscape, I was excited by this unique plant. But..darn...it has what appears to be mealy bugs. What is the best control, ..other than dumping my "gift" starts? Can I treat these now-calloused starts BEFORE I plant them? |

| Mealies are pretty easy to get rid of and control. I would just rinse the bugs off with a garden hose. Once the water has dried and all the mealies are gone, I would also thoroughly spray the cactus with an all purpose gardening-specific pesticide. This should ensure that any stray mealies will be destroyed. There's no problem doing this before you plant them. Good luck. cd |
