Southwestern Gardening

1/3 acre on slope elevation 3400

Hi there,

We have around 1/3 of an acre with a slight slope to it, the area faces West with plenty of sun in the afternoons and evenings. There is currently no wall around this area and we live around 20 minutes South of Tucson. Elevation is 3400 feet we do sometimes freeze and get a little bit of snow maybe once or twice a year. What can I plant that would be low maintenance and worry free? We've had trouble with citrus they've lived but we have to cover them during the winter. I have a peach tree that is thriving but I'm not a fan of peaches.

The following are just a few that I know do well there: they're drought tolerant, thrive on heat, and hardy enough for the area.

cacti (various, including some with excellent fruit)
fig
white sapote
apricot
carob
loquat
grape
date
texas persimmon
