Mesquite Beans

Posted by mspears1 (My Page) on

I am looking for mesquite beans/seeds. I am doing an experimental archaeology project in which I will be using mesquite beans/seeds, hopefully intact in their pods, to grind to flour. If anyone has access to them please let me know my searches have only produced their processed flour. I am more then willing to pay or trade for them. Thanks a lot.

Where do you live?

I have tons of fallen beans I could let you collect, or even mail to you.

I live in NY(long way from where mesquite is grown). If you could send me beans though I would be ecstatic to pay the shipping costs and any other expenses that occur during that process! Let me know. Thank you!

It looks like you are all set with a source. I just want to add that the pods themselves are incredibly sweet and the seeds are hard as a rock. Before grinding, inspect all the pods for any with suspicious signs of rot and eliminate them. Pods on the ground can pick up molds that are unhealthy even after cooking. Have fun!

Best have ya dang good grinder. Them there beans is mighty hard. (spoken in Texan thar, Yank)

The pods also get some kinda borrer very quickly although it feeds on the starchy pod, seamingly not the seed.

I'll check my trees this weekend. Don't recall seing many bean pods this year though. The beans are so tiny so you'll need a bunch.
