| The whole issue of zeriscaping is becoming very important to gardeners here in Spain as long hot summers and dry reservoirs are making water scarce and expensive in an increasing number of areas. While builders continue to hide the coastline in tower blocks on top of some of the best agricultural soils previously used for growing vegetables new villas are increasingly on poor rocky mountain sides or arid inland valleys. |

| Disappointing to hear that builders there are like those in the US, not that it should really surprise me, given those with money having the power that comes with it. Xeriscaping is really becoming widespread, as people discover that you can have a lush garden on little water, if you use climate- appropriate plants, i.e.,natives or at least plants with similar characteristics. It is a burgeoning movement, necessary in these increasingly water scarce times. |
