Welcome to NM. I am not from Alamogordo, but Las Cruces climate is almost identical. 3 great gardening books for our area: Landscape Plants for Dry Regions, by Jones and Sacamano; Best Plants for New Mexico by Morrow Baker; and just about anything by Judith Phillips, NM landscape expert from Albuquerque. Good luck.

Look at the High Country Gardens website. I'm in California, but they have alot of great plants and they are located in New Mexico.
