Teaching in the Gardens

What: GrannyÂs Garden School is offering a hands-on summer camp for anyone involved in starting a school garden program.

The week-long camp focuses on practical, low-cost methods for establishing a program at your school and how to integrate the garden with your classroom curriculum. The outdoor camp is packed full of hands on activities. They even bring in children from time to time to demonstrate techniques for working with a class. Spend the week with GrannyÂs staff and volunteers and learn from their experience.

When: June 21 - June 25, 2010, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Where: GrannyÂs Garden School on the grounds of Loveland Elementary School, 550 Loveland Madeira Road, Loveland Ohio 45140

How Much: The $250 registration fee includes lunch and lots of goodies, i.e. seeds, plants, lesson plans and floral and herb bouquets. Visit the website for information on how to register on line or by mail.

More information: GrannyÂs Garden School, has grown from an all volunteer initiative of a grandmother wanting to give children the chance to pick flowers to the largest and most comprehensive school garden program in the Midwest. They are making it part of their mission to help others with the conversion of school yards into living classrooms to bring the benefits of outdoor education to more children.
