What to let kids plant now?

| My neighbors and I are interested in letting our kids plant something now that they can nurture over the summer and possibly eat. We have a small area that gets mostly full sun and would like to have something for the kids to be responsible for, checking daily, watering, etc (they are 5, 6 and 7 years old). None of us are gardeners and know absolutely nothing about fruits or vegetables....is it too late to plant Tomatoes or Watermelons in Atlanta? Thanks. |

| I would say look for tomato or pepper plants that are available in garden centers now (don't start from seed) and you should be fine. You could also try planting some seeds for pumpkins or gourds now. Enjoy! Oh, and there are always sunflowers w/ seeds. |
