Plants that help defend against dangers

Hi, my name is Andrew and I just recently have become interested in botany, so I'm very new and am in need of much help.
I would like to start my own small modest little garden, and I was wondering if there were actually any types of common household (or non-common) plants that help defend against certain types of dangers or harmful things inside the house, such as certain bacteria or something? And if not defend, then help in any way. I guess I'm just wondering if there are any types of plants that would be beneficial towards the people living in that house.
My father is starting to get older, and to be honest, I'm a bit of a worry-wart, so I'd like to make sure the air around him is healthy, and hoped that maybe there were some plants that could help towards this in any way. Thank you. |

| It is my understanding that Spider plants [also called airplane plant] is a good one for indoor air purification. Lemon Balm has been used as furniture polish [it even smells like Pledge]
Thyme Oil is said to kill about 99.9% of harmful germs and bacteria. You can learn more about essential oils by googling Young Living Oils online.
White vinegar is used to clean windows and such -
You may want to study herbalism - it is fascinating to learn the various uses of plants for healing and such. I am taking a correspondence course through the School of Natural Healing to become a Master Herbalist, but you can learn a lot on your own online or through books on herbs.
