Fairy Garden

Hi, I'm new last week to the Garden Forum. I'm looking for information on creating a fairy garden for my nieces, who are both four. I found the very old thread below on "Daughter's Fairy Garden" which has some great ideas.

Is anyone on this forum working on fairy gardens? I'm more interested in a semi-shade garden with child-sized plants, with fairy accessories. My nieces love Tinkerbell and fairy stories and even dressing up like fairies. I hope that by making a fairy garden, I can give them a place to play and dream, as well as inspire them to garden themselves, when they get older.

Thanks for any help you can offer!

RE: Fairy Garden

I made a fairy garden earlier this year for my Grandchildren but need to take some new pics of it as the flowers have grown. I had planned to make it in a washtub but found an old tin bathtub at a yard sale so used that. I placed it in a corner of the garden, filled it with soil, and used small edging plants. I collected some small things at yard sales and thrift shops - a ceramic house that was supposed to be a hanging candle holder, a small bear figurine, a couple of fairies, a tiny birdhouse w/bird, a wire "gazebo", a tiny glass garden totem, and a glass garden "umbrella".

These pics were taken 3 months ago right after I finished it and the plants have grown a lot so the Grands and I will make some changes this weekend. Later I'll move the plants to the garden and store the fairies, etc. inside for the winter.

Here's the vintage bathtub made into a fairy garden...

Here are the two fairies under their glass "umbrella"...

Hope this inspires parents or grandparents to make a fairy garden! :-)

TickleMe Plants are a great addition to any fairy garden.
The TickleMe Plant is the real plant that instantly closes its leaves and lowers its branches when Tickled
I get my supplies at http://www.ticklemeplant.com

Luckygal- I love your idea of having the miniatures in the garden. I was out shopping the other day and found the cutest bridge (supposed to be for a fish tank) and I'm going to use it next year in the garden. It's just the right size for the wee ones to use to cross a gravel stream :)

Plantastic_Gardener- Thanks for the plant ideas. Always nice to involve kids in gardening!
