When a plant is stated to be hardy to zone 8 does that mean only to 20 F or to a whole range of temperatures from 10 F to 20 F ?

| It ought to mean the lower number of the range, David. Unfortunately, though, I find that the hardiness zone notation is not always reliable in that way. Notations on growing conditions, wind protection, and sun requirements, as well, are important. Best thing to do is check with a local nursery or someone who gardens extensively in your zone for better info on the plant you're interested in. Good luck. - K |
