My first Terrarium!

Posted by terrariumboi20 Ontario (My Page) on

Hello fellow Green thumbs! I was hoping someone out there might know where I would be able to go to buy supplies for a terrarium. I have a beautiful vessel, but I'm needing plants, stones/sand and all of the things that make it work and thrive. Does anyone know of a place in Toronto that would be helpful? Any advice would be wonderful and greatly appreciated! I'm a bit of a novice!

I just took a look on google and didnt find a thing? you might have to order on line, just look up terrarium supplies on google and youll find a bunch, blackjungle.com is one, but people complained in the past about their plants, Ive ordered things from them (not plants) without a problem, hope that helps =)

I would check out your local garden centre or nursery. They should have all of the supplies (soil, sand/gravel, charcoal) that you need at a relatively okay price, plus they have people you can talk to too! Checked out any of the following places?

Bill's Garden Centre - 416-466-8283
http://billsgarden.sites.toronto.com/
903 Pape Avenue, East York, ON M4K 3V1

Boncheff Greenhouses - 416-233-1800
382 Olivewood Road, Etobicoke, ON M8Z 2Z9

Humber Nurseries Ltd - 905-794-0555
8386 Hwy 50, Brampton, ON L6T 0A5

Angelo's Garden Centre - 905-669-9220
1801 Highway 7, Concord, ON L4K 1V4

Tumino's Garden Centre - 416-762-9644
271 Scarlett Road, York, ON M6N 4L1

Maybe give some of them a call and tell them what you want to do and see if they can help you out. If you have local resources, it totally beats having to purchase online.

I found that at this time of the year, plant selection is quite limited at the garden centres. I did find a few smaller 2" plants, but they are few and probably not very good for small terrariums ('cept I don't know a lot about plants. I just started too ^_^ ).

You guys are lucky in big Toronto, so many garden centers. We've only got a handful (that I know of) here in Calgary.

Post back to let us know what you find!

Peace outside,

C

I like to look around my local garden centers too, usually find cool stuff, just be sure to clean everything, including plants, should you decide to place critters in your set up, pestisides on the plants will kill frogs quickly!
