Soil Mix for Moss Terrarium?

Posted by nyccoconut 6 (My Page) on

Hello!

I would like to get some suggestions for soil for my moss terrariums. Of course, I have my drainage layer and charcoal layer.

At present, the mixture I use for my moss is:
• Potting mix with a bit of coir mixed in
• 1" - 1/2" of coir on top

Does anyone have suggestions for other soil mixes?

Thank you!
Jeff

Hey Jeff,

The type of moss and your conditions, I imagine, will be the determining factors, as always.

In my 10 gal terr -- VERY wet boggy conditions, close to 100% humidity -- I have a carpet of moss growing on basically 100% peat moss.

In my other 2 terrs, I have no soil -- just sphag over lava rock. I have volunteer mosses growing in both
