Tony
I guess you'll have to liven it up lol.
My new project is doing great much better than I expected
But I'm at a standstill now until the summer rains start
as i don't want the whole thing to fall down lol
I'm trying Madagascar lace plants again in the water part though I've already been told I'm doing it wrong lol.
I found some magnificent ones at under 5 bucks so just had to try. Lost all of its leaves and produced 3 flower stalks . Hope this is not a sign of going dormant. I've never been able to get them to regrow after it.
All the Aponogeton family has dormant periods but the lace plant seems to need something extra.
All the orchids are showing new growth and I can see already that some are too close together lol. Going to add some specie orchids when the wall stabilizes.
Okay not too exciting but all i got lol

Hello
Thanks for the links. Note how everyone has a different experience lol. I've tried them in the past with varying degrees of failure. Since I have such a large tank thought
I'd give them a shot again. I'm using a 5 inch mixture of
top soil with a thin layer of gravel. Much too rich I've been told. lol
My main problem has been algae and dormancy. If you get algae in all those holes they're gone and I've tried many approaches to the dormant period with the usual result that if they wake up the growth is weak and suffers from chlorosis.
I'm convinced that dormancy is not an annual thing and may not even be necessary for long periods.
I think the most plausible explanation is that the water silts up during hurricanes or exceptional heavy rain.
Oh well,so far it's doing great, have 3 flower stalks and new leaves are forming. Very deep green and perfect and not a trace of algae lol.
Thanks again gary
