glass 5gallon Jar

When I was moving recently we cleaned out the old shed on the property and found lots of cool goodies, the old owner was an avid gardener.

One of the random items was this old glass 5 gallon jug.

I kept it, but wasn't sure what I was going to use it for... recently I thought turning it into a terrarium would be interesting.

Has anyone done a project in a jar like this? Does anyone have any tips or advice? This is my first terrarium endeavor, and I've been reading a lot. I don't want to over complicate it, I know it is going to be enough of a pain just to get everything it it properly, having such a small opening and all.

Any tips or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I would not use it as a terrarium.
Too much of a hassle. Terrariums are not all that self
sufficient. The great looking ones take a lot of care and time to attend to cleaning up dying plant parts and trimming back the more invasive plants in the terrarium.
Though I have seen it done before using the old 5 gallon jugs I think its best use would be to keep water in (really a no-brainer!). Find one of the old style water coolers that the jug sat on top of. It would be cool!
(Like the good old days when we, my generation, were all naive!!)
