Moss farming! LOL!

I posted once about a 2" or 3" piece of sheet moss I placed in a 2 gallon tank just to see what happened, well its grown to cover the entire bottom of the tank! It obviously has grown, died, and turned to soil on which more moss (and others!) have grown! I say its "died and turned to soil" as I have transplanted it to a larger 10G aquarium and to my surprise it has a small layer, about 1/4 inch, of fine soil on the bottom! I am keeping it in the same conditions as the previous set up and hope to get the entire bottom of the 10G covered, I will then move it to a 20G that will be set up for PDF or cuban green tree frogs as they are the only ones I can keep alive so far! I know its a bit much to go through but you guys that have been here for a bit know that I have had no luck growing moss in the past, I seem to be able to keep most plants alive, but not moss, so Ill do it this way for now =) Here are a couple of pics.

| Thats great! Moss in a viv looks so cool. I have had luck with sphagnum moss. You have to keep it very, very wet and make sure it gets light, so the best place for this moss is right next to your water feature with some of it over in the water so it can soack up just as much water as it needs. I also have some java moss in there that grows the same way. The sphagnum looks better to me though. |
