If it's a perennial it might have to grow outdoors.

I don't know if they will grow in containers.

They are a very tough little plant.

What I am going to suggest might sound severe but if the roots are healthy it will work.

In the hot Australian sun they die right back in the summer and will even survive a bush fire because the roots are not damaged.

I would take it out of the container cut every thing off leaving about one inch.

Take it outside, roll up a piece of paper light it and burn the last one inch off.

I the plant is OK it will shoot new growth in the spring if not it was dead any way.

I never considered the possibility that it wouldn't thrive indoors. It was with the terrarium plants at the nursery, so I just made an assumption.

Interesting. Never seen a fungus like that. I would recommend cutting off all the old dead growth near the base of the plant. Just be careful not to accidently snip the new shoot.

That's what I did and at the moment, it's slowly growing back. Being new to a terrarium, I didn't know what to expect.
