Prolific soil mites in terrarium

Posted by portsample (My Page) on

Hello all-
I've got a terrarium in my living room that has developed QUITE a population of what appear to be soil mites. Is this a regular problem for terrarium keepers, and if so, what is the best way to trim their population back a bit?

Whatever the solution, it must be non-chemical as I have juvenile Wood Turtles in this habitat.

Below is a link to a photo of the set up.

Thanks for reading this.

Here is a link that might be useful: bog terraria

Try some food grade DE/Diatomaceous Earth. Take the turtles out before you apply it and put them back in after it is applied. You're not supposed to breathe the dust but once settled it will be fine.
