Why doesn't my grapewood rot?

Hello~I have a false-bottom setup with a waterfall, coco bedding, tropicals, and tillandsias in a 20 gallon tall aquarium. The entire top is covered except for a small ventilation slit at the back. Daytime temps average 75-80 F and humidity levels are at 60-80%.

Against all instinct, I purchased a large piece of grapewood from Twin Oaks Aquariums at an exotic animal show. I cut it into three pieces and put it into the terrarium. Every piece is touching the wet floor, and a few are even touching the waterfall. But, after 3 months, there is abolutly no sign of mold, rot, or scum on the wood-even near the parts in contact with moist soil!

Do I have a freak piece of grapewood or something? Any ideas?
