Best shade tree for my yard

Hello, I am looking for a shade tree to plant on the South side of my house (zone 5). It is a smallish area about 30ft by 12ft. My house is new construction with no trees around, so we want to establish a few nice shade trees to cut energy costs. I really like the Sun Valley Red maple and I'm planning to plant one in a bigger area of my lawn as well, but didn't know if it would be a good fit in this particular space. I'm worried about it having shallow roots and disrupting the sidewalks and driveway around it. Also, I'm interestes in trees that don't make a lot of mess (that's why I like the Sun Valley so much). Any advice would be appreciated.
