RE: how to care for new bluebirds

I'm new to bluebirding- just put up a nestbox in late February and awoke to see a male and female atop the box on my birthday 7 days ago. Very exciting present! I don't understand their behavior; 3-4 days ago the female was in and out all day. Then I didn't see either for a couple of days. I thought they had deserted but this morning the male was sitting atop the nest for a long time and I thought I could see the female inside. I live in very urban Atlanta but I haven't seen any HOSP or snakes. Do I still need a predator guard?
