| when you are disabling a spam post, please just use the white out code for the time being, while we are opening them and gathering the IP info. Those flashing notes are really annoying...maybe it is because I had too much coffee...think? |

Yes, I agree, they can be annoying. Were you able to see the 2 that were done last night? I left the ones this morning thinking it would make it tougher to see them. Sure will be curious as to how many different people are involved in the spam. Looks like you all are really getting a handle on it. |

| Yep, I saw, and logged the info from 00:40 on, on the thread Bernie Fife started called Spammers IP I don't mind if you white them out ASAP and would really prefer it. They are sooo disgusting. s |

I did see it before you whited it. Got as far as the preview and looked once more and saw the subject line. Thought it was possible it could have been some sort of a club. Like the Masons, Lions, Elks, etc. Was watching to see what you would do. When I first got the white out several weeks ago I whited out something by accident because I just glanced at the odd letter sequence and didn't look closely. |

| Hey, if they have a screwy subject line and a screwy member name and zone, and figure that are up to CRAP...so I just white em out. They can learn to post like us 'regular' folks do. |

Wait a minute, that is me, I love to do that. But, you could still find my IP, right. I was looking at the directions you all had last night for that and got to a certain point. Very interesting |

| Thought I had better come out of communicado. No, that one was not me, but you could check the IP to see who it was, right? |
RE: a request to all-2
| | |
| yes...can check the IP on any of them......did I white you out at sometime? If anything looks 'suspicious' I white it out in a heartbeat, even if no drugs or porn. |
RE: a reque st to all
| | |
| point taken. no, you never did white me out. But, like I said, I did white out someone by mistake. I went back and did select all and looked more closely and it was a legitimate post. Couldn't remove the white out so that was it. Then again maybe one mistake like that is better than all that terrible porn and drug that first timers see. It must be quite a shock to see it. |

But, like I said, I did white out someone by mistake. Hon, you learned from that one little bitty mistake. Heck, oftentimes the OP never even comes back to look at their post here, or at least not before it was getting bumped off by spam. Yes, you have done tons more good than harm here. s |

When the moderators on the other forums remove posts, wouldn't it be simpler to just white them out? I suppose eventually they can block posters. Once you get your list of IP's I suppose that will cut down a lot on spam. Keep up the good work all of you regulars. You are a very patient and fun group. |

| when you are disabling a spam post, please just use the white out code for the time being, Is it O.K. if I use another color as long as it's solid? (I'm experimenting with some colored backgrounds with number codes...trying to fill a folder with various backgrounds to use against spammers.) Julie |

| I think Sue didn't want the animated stuff which I agree with her. The chocolate and turquoise background is alright by me. |

When the moderators on the other forums remove posts, wouldn't it be simpler to just white them out? Why do you think it would be beneficial for them to white out threads and leave them as opposed to them just removing them? Am I missing something? They can only block a 'poster' if that poster is a registered member. Occasionally they do block a member from posting. I have seen it on the garden forums when the rules were not followed...Morning Glory woman comes to mind. Are you familiar with her? I know of another member that was blocked at the KT. She and another member often tangled, so after several warnings she went Kaput! What GW did Wed (was it) was they blocked the IP of the druggie guy after I pointed out to them that a LOT of posts were coming from the same IP. S |
RE: a request to all

| Sue. Have you received any form of communication from GW? If you did can you share it with us. Bernie |
RE: a request to all
| | |
| sure...not verbatum though...I asked if there was a lot of spam from a particular IP if they could block it and she (gwtamara) replied that they could....I gave them the drug guys IP and that took care of him pretty well, at least for the time being. She also said that a lot of the spam here is from spam bots and not real people and that if an IP is blocked it will just generate a new one. She also said that she had prodded the tech team about the Test Forum....I'm assuming that is to make it for member's only posting, thus stopping all the non member spam. Hopefully the tech team doesn't have a lot of bigger fires to put out. While this is a favorite forum of ours, it gets very little real GW traffic compared to so many other forums, thus making it maybe lower on the totem pole. I pointed out some time ago, that it is an awful first impression for someone new to GW and if I joined a site and went to the test forum and saw the smut like as been going on at GW TEst, that I would leave and never go back...if you know what I mean....some food for their thoughts. s |

| You are welcome. Things are looking up, don't you think? I have however never known of GW being in much of a hurry at getting so many things taken care of. The search was out on a couple of forums for probably a year. The Special Instructions LInk for the Seed Exchange and The Plant Exchange has not worked for years. I started a thread at those forums with the forum instructions in it, and then I, and lots of others try to keep it bumped up on page 1. s |

Maybe if there was a personality clash and people said things they shouldn't in the heat of an argument, then when things cooled down someone would have already been blocked. I don't know anything about it, but there must be a process involved in getting reinstated after being blocked. If they just whited out the negative postings until things cooled down it would send a message and they could still come back. Never did hear of Morning Glory. I do know there is someone now that is being picked on at a forum. I think she will weather it though. |

I don't know anything about it, but there must be a process involved in getting reinstated after being blocked. Back when Spiko owned and ran GW it was a pretty tight ship. If you crossed his path, you were gone! (ask me how I know) I have heard since then though that now if you get too many warnings that the system will automatically lock you out. If they just whited out the negative postings until things cooled down it would send a message and they could still come back. Often when a thread goes all to heck, but has a lot of good stuff in it, GW will swiss cheese it, removing all of the offending posts, and warning those who had posts pulled. I used to see that a LOT over on the tomato forum...yes, there were personality clashes at a forum of tomato loves...almost unbelievable. |
