Trying to copy and paste information about spammers instead of typing it all in.

What kind of info?

 o
RE: Figur ing how to copy and pas te

I thought it was just because I was getting so tired that it wasn't working last night. Today, again, I can copy and paste the physical address city and state of my fake spam but when I try to cut and paste my IP number and the other information about 6 lines above the number it will preview but not submit.
Do you always just type it all in?

 o
RE: Figuring how to copy and paste

Here is what I got from this Website.

General Information

Hostname: host-244-69-3-96.midco.net
ISP: Midcontinent Communications
Organization: Midcontinent Communications
Proxy: None detected
Type: Cable/DSL
Blacklist:

Geo-Location Information

Country: United States
State/Region: ND
City: Bismarck
Latitude: 46.7999
Longitude: -100.6973
Area Code: 701

What website are you using to look up IP addresses.

 o
RE: Figuring how to copy and paste-2

Do you always just type it all in?
No.

What website are you using to look up IP addresses.
I imagine she is using the one Julie posted yesterday, at the link below. That is the one I am using.

Here is a link that might be useful: What is my IP address?

 o
RE: Fig uring how to co py and pas te

http://whatismyipaddress.com/ Am using this website that was on my bookmarks for you a few days back. I think it is the same one you are using

 o
RE: Figuring how to copy and paste 1

the first part is the one that doesn't cut and paste. Where Julie had told you to go to the page and half way down was the name and 6 more lines down was the IP number

 o
RE: Fig uring h ow to cop y and pa ste

I reread the bookmark. Maybe not supposed to cut and paste the name part. Only that it is there.

 o
RE: Figuring how to copy and paste

I think I know what she wanted to copy/paste.

This is from 'View Page Source'

Is this what you wanted to copy/paste?

 o
RE: Figuring how to copy and paste

what...lol

 o
RE: Figuring how to copy and paste

I saw that it didn't print it out either. I would say that it is because of it being in HTML code but there are ways to get around it.

Here is what it looks like.

Is that the information you were trying to copy/paste?

 o

and the origusername value se@cret.com

 o
RE: Figuring how to copy and paste 15

when someone asks you a question and your answer prefaces with the question in italics that they asked. How do you do that?

 o
RE: F iguring how to copy and paste

<i>insert what you want to say here</i>

COPY THE ABOVE that is step 1

copy what ever you want and paste it where I wrote "insert what you want to say" that is step 2

It then should work for you. Try it.

RE: Fig uring how to copy and paste

You are getting better and better at this. Here's another one.

COPY THE ABOVE that is step 1

copy what ever you want and paste it where I wrote "This is 20pt type" that is step 2

Try it

 o
RE: Figuring how to copy and paste

I use
Font size =+1
Font size =+2
Font size=+3
Font size=+4

etc....

 o
RE: Figuring how to copy and paste

speaking of font size, that is what got me into my difficulty with my computer today. I was remembering somewhere on the top toolbar? a place where there was a choice of font size, font style which would include italics, bold, roman, tazmanian, anything you can think of. There must have been 50 choices of letter styles. Also there was different color choices for letters. I couldn't find it but by trying I somehow lost my arrow that is on the top toolbar? that can backspace. Now only backspace is the backspace key. Very interesting.

 o
RE: Figuring how to copy and paste

I couldn't find it but by trying I somehow lost my arrow that is on the top toolbar?
It sound like you have probably lost a toolbar.

Go to the top and click on View, and then toolbars. Make sure there is a checkmark next to Navigation toolbar.

Sherry,

Yes, you would have a variety of fonts in your Word program.
To post those various fonts, you would do something like this:

<font face="Curlz MT">practicing fonts from Microsoft Word</font>

and it will turn out like this:
practicing fonts from Microsoft Word

 o
RE: Figuring how to copy and paste

O.K. Sherry, you're seeing exactly what I posted at 21:59.

The first line is really red, printed with the "Algerian" font.

The second line is blue printed with the "Lucida Calligraphy" font.

The third line is Green, printed with the "Edwardian Script ITC" font.

The forth line is purple, printed with the "Wide Latin" font.

A very long time ago before I found the GardenWeb site, I used to add fancy fonts on all my photos. So I spent a few days making a list of all fonts, and printed them in all their particular "styles" so that I can now grab that hardcopy list and choose something of my liking to post on these forums.

Julie

 o
RE: Figuring how to copy and paste 20

Yes, I was just over there and saw them. Tried to type here with the cookie cutter font. It seems like before I could type a letter on the outlook express and not do anything extra to get the font. Just set it and type it.
Am going to try and follow your directions.

 o
RE: Figuring how to copy and paste

Hey, Sherry, You're getting it...congrats!

Kt, aka 'Mr. Mischief' turned all the posts blue as background text (or a similar code),

AND he pulled a Jambalaya trick!

I like playing that on my violin.

Sherry, can you hear it?

Julie

 o
RE: Figuring how to copy and paste 26

Bernie's font size formula. Now how would you get the colors, font size, and font style all at once. You would have to type the message three times? No, guess you would have one message with all the font formulas before and after?

 o
RE: Figuring how to copy and paste

What browsers are you all using? Sometimes things turn up looking or working differently between IE & FF. Just a thought.

True, Sandy.
ALSO, it depends on what program your computer is...XP versus Vista, for example. When I posted all those fancy fonts earlier, I was using my desktop computer with XP. Now I'm on my laptop, with Vista, and the fancy fonts I posted show in plain text, except for the third one. It all depends what fonts are on your computer in your word processor programs.

My laptop doesn't have Algerian, Lucida Calligraphy, or Wide Latin fonts, so those words look like plain text here. But my laptop DOES have Edwardian Script ITC, so it "reads" the (third line) message exactly as posted from my desktop earlier.

Confusing, huh?

Julie

Thanks everyone, for the copy/paste and font lessons. It was fun. Must call it a day. Have to get up early tomorrow.

RE: Figuring how to copy and paste

A comment that I have been putting off for the last couple of hours on this thread.

First of all a disclaimer. This is not an attack on anybody. I am looking at this as an educational value.

Most of you are at what I would call at a college level as far as html code goes. Myself, I would put me at a 7th grade level. Sherry is at a 1 grade level. My perception of Sherry is of an elderly lady that is a recent computor user.

Now earlier this afternoon, Sherry asked about italics. Ok, I showed her in 2 simple steps how it was done. One post later she nailed it. So I show her how to use bold. One post later she nailed it again. Then I showed her font size. Well she got side-tracked and didn't do the font size exercise.

As the afternoon went along I got to thinking that when the regulars came on later in the evening are they going to show different colored text, different font sizes, etc.,etc.. Well that happened and Sherry got confused shortly after that. She wanted to know, "What does the "Curlz MT" mean? Is that the code for Algerian?" And yes Julie tried to explain it to her but I think she is still confused as to what all of you were doing.

My point that I am trying to get at is make it simple. You guys are going over her head and at times over my head also. From an educational point of view you trying to teach her things that were too advanced for her. Bring it down to her level. Show her how to do colored text or font size or whatever else she has a question about. That is what this test forum is about. People come here to test things out and if they are having problems, you guys generally help them out. That how I learned html. I asked questions and you showed me how it is done.

So all I'm asking is make it simple.

Now if I made any of you angry with me, I apologize right now.

I'm going to bookmark this thread in case it get bumped off and read what you have to say in the morning.

Take care and thanks everybody.

Bernie

 o
RE: Figuring how to copy and paste

It is ok Bernie. Yes, you have me pegged right, I am an older person. Have had the computer for several years but never really delved into it. That is why I remembered the word perfect on my own because I had used the fun part of it (font size, style, color) many years ago but had forgotten where I had seen them. The part about the Algerian font was true. Thought Curlz mt was a code for something. I figured that one out when I went back to word perfect and scrolled down as far as the C's. I just enjoy coming to the test forum and listening to you all. You get the job done and yet you are having so much fun. Maybe not everyone that would come to the site would appreciate the sense of humor you all have and the back and forth of your kidding around but I do. You make me laugh. Sometimes, even younger people don't have a sense of humor.
One thing I am afraid of is that I will overdo with the questions and asking for free advice. Eventually I can see where that might get tiresome.
I know of a lady on another forum that has put some of the regulars off because she posts so often. I was thinking that last night at I looked at how many threads I had on the forum. I felt bad for her because she is so enthusiastic and she just keeps on posting.
Thanks again for all the lessons. I made copies of the font lessons that you all had yesterday.
Now don't start pulling out your hair, but this is how I do that. I copy and paste the one post that has the lesson to my email and then I print it.
I know there is a much simpler way to do it but that works, Maybe that was going to be my next question.
Must get ready for work. I will be checking up on you later. Keep up the good work.
Sherry

RE: Figuring how to copy and paste

Sherry, we will never tire of your questions or of attempting to answer you. Last winter we had a LOT if fun with member lilyjane(sp) (Jan). She was a riot with her questions and everything. Sometime later I will dig up the thread over on the Gallery side where we were teaching her
italics
bold,
colors,
blinking
and I think color size.

Sorry to say life got busy for her and she had to temporarily drop out of 'school'. I'm hoping someday, maybe this winter, she will find some time to come back and review all she learned and maybe learn some more.

You guys lost me on all of the font stuff, but that is fine...I have no time/desire to learn it right now anyway.

Sherry, I had you figured you were self taught on the computer, just like me and were about 30 something. I learned the very basics from a neighbor when she had a computer before I got mine, but it wasn't until years later that I learned how to copy and paste, and use multiple tabs or windows.

RE: Fi guring how to copy and paste

Hi Sherry.

Please ask questions if you don't know how to do things. As my dad always says "the only dumb question is the one that you didn't ask".

The intent of my comment was to slow down the amount of information that you were seeing. I could see in your typing that you were getting confused and I didn't want you to get overwhelmed will all of that new information.

As you said, this test forum is great. We laugh, we learn, and we have fun.

Bernie

 o
RE: Figuring how to copy and paste

I thought the Test Forum was for griping about government intervention and their policies/laws, and to tell bad penguin jokes.

Hummm, I learned all that in one post...thanks for clearing that up!

P.S. I picture Sherry as a young lady.

 o
RE: Figuring how to copy and paste

Bernie,
Now if I made any of you angry with me, I apologize right now.
You have not made me angry at all. You have in fact reminded me that I need practice on my coaching skills. I'm NOT a good teacher when it comes to HTML stuff. On top of that, I'm even worse when I try to explain something late at night, when my left brain doesn't know what my right brain is doing.

I think the best HTML teacher we ever had here was Bob (who I hope will come back soon!)
Sue also does a much better job than I do at explaining in detail.

As far as college level HTML - I'm far from it! I have only learned some basic HTML codes in the last couple of years, and that was HERE on the test forum. Mikie also taught us many codes...wish he'd come back too, someday.

Sherry,
Ditto on what Sue said:
...we will never tire of your questions or of attempting to answer you.
And if I ever explain something poorly, ask me again.
I will also not be offended if someone else jumps in to improve on my explanation.

Now, to try and answer your Q that you submitted on Fri. at 23:25...
...Now how would you get the colors, font size, and font style all at once. You would have to type the message three times? No, guess you would have one message with all the font formulas before and after?

You can prob'ly do it 15 different ways, but I'll show you two.

1. If you use three separate codes before your message, you have to also use three separate ending tags like this:
<font color="red"><font size=5><font face="Jokerman">Message: I'm trying to learn to be a better coach.</font></font>It will look like this:
Message: I'm trying to learn to be a better coach.

2. You can put all three codes together before your message, all included between the < and the >, then all you need at the end is one closing tag like this:
<font color="red"font size=5font face="Jokerman">Hope this instruction helps. If not, please ask me to explain it better.</font>
It should turn out like this:
Hope this instruction helps. If not, please ask me to explain it better.

Using the 1st way is easier, I think, because if you make a mistake, you can go back a review your HTML codes and find & correct your mistake easier than if you try the second way.

Hope this helps,

Julie

 o
RE: Figuring how to copy and paste

Doggone it!

I already screwed up!

Sherry, in my previous post at 9:35 my first instruction on how to post three different commands in one message, I left out the third ending tag!
See what I mean...I'm a bad coach!

It should read like this:

1. If you use three separate codes before your message, you have to also use three separate ending tags like this:
<font color="red"><font size=5><font face="Jokerman">Message: I'm a very bad coach!.</font></font></font>It will look like this:
Message: I'm a very bad coach!

Too busy to play much today, but will stop by to lurk when I'm on break. I'm now off to the USPS site to print postage for a box of irises being sent for 'postage only' that should have gone out a week or so ago. I'm a mess...just like the butcher who backed up into the meat grinder. I've gotten a little 'behind' in my work here.

 o
RE: Figuring how to copy and paste

I think everyone that has been posting here recently is over 50. Why I think that is sense of humor, taste in music, love of little creatures, patience, not giving up easily, keeping late hours. Lots of younger people have a great sense of humor, but they wouldn't come across the way you do. Your humor is just way too far out.

 o
RE: Figuring how to copy and paste

Yes, Sherry, It plays every time I open this post. And it keeps playing over and over and over and....

Kt added it (I think) as part of the background when he changed all the text to blue.

I have the code for the background music somewhere in a folder.

Do you have your volume turned up?

If you can't hear it, maybe you don't have the same music player program that I do, or that Kt has.
I have Quick Time on this computer.

Too much of a good thing.....well, I sometimes turn volume to mute, or else I'll learn to dislike the song, and I don't want to get to that stage!!:)

 o
RE: Figuring how to c op y and paste

So, maybe everyone with Quicktime hears it. I have Windows Media Player that is the main one. Then, sometimes when that doesn't work then I have RealPlayer. Think I did have Quicktime at one time. It may still there.

I found out I have (on my laptop) Windows Media Player, Real Player, and Quick Time. I also have iTunes, but have absolutely no idea how to use it.
I have no clue as to which one is being used to play the Jambalaya bkgrd to this thread.

Sue,
Open up your start menu (lower left corner of screen), then click on All Programs. If you have Windows Media Player it should be listed there, along with any other "tune" players on your computer.

I don't know what 2/3 of this computer can do yet!

Goodness, I had no idea we had lost you to those stupid addicting farms games. I have known of several cyber friends who have just dropped off the face of the net other than facebook...and admit the farm games are so addicting and they talk about them in real life, like they are real life...stoopid!.

I privately emailed a cyber friend and asked if she was all right as she had not posted here at GW for months and months. I got a very brief reply saying she had been quite busy and she could be reached at Facebook.

well excuse me, I don't want to join facebook just to keep up with someone(s) She could at least post a blurb or something on her member page.

Can't hear the video in the link provided because

SOMEBODY PUT JAMBALAYA MUSIC IN THE BACKGROUND OF THIS THREAD, and it overrides the speech in the video.

I'll open another thread and post your link, Sherry.
