Guidelines for freeze?

Hey All,

I'm new enough to gardening to not know the answer to this...at this time of year what plants might need to be covered/protected from our crazy ice/snow? I've got the start of *something* (maybe Texas Red Sage)...and a few other things. I started to look up info one by one (Columbine, Phlox, Hyacinth)...but that seems inefficient. Are there any general guidelines that you use? Can I assume anything that's up at the time of year will be ok. I know that come April when the hosta start to show that I'll need to cover things. I learned that the hard way in the last year or so... :-(

Thanks, all. Hope to see you at the MTPS!
