Is is hawthorn?

Hi all! This is my first post here, so hello. I've been lurking and have found lots of useful information, so I'm hoping someone can answer my questions. My neighbor (and everyone else in Nashville it seems) has a beautiful shrub that's blooming now. It looks a lot like forsythia, blooms shortly after forsythia, and has lovely bright pinky-red flowers. He says his deceased wife always called it hawthorn. I've looked up hawthorn and it looks like the flowers in the photos, but the photos always seem to show white flowers. So is it hawthorn, and can I propagate it from a clipping? I found a site that said it can be done but didn't give any detail. Any and all suggestions are appreciated! ~~Michelle
