Veggies in Pots

Hi, all! I am new to TN, though an old gardener and near a decade with gardenweb. We are renting while waiting for new home to find us. And becuase we are renting, I am not doing a whole lot of gardening.

I do want to have my own tomatoes and cukes and was planning on putting them in 20 gallon pots. I am just a little worried about heat.

Will it get too hot for veggies in pots? Will I need to water every day or provide shade? Any advise is welcome!
