Rotting cannas

kathy003

Due to the early hot temperatures I had emerging cannas in a bed that is roughly 8 foot by 5 foot. It was a pretty boring looking bed, being totally cannas, and totally yellow at that.

I now have a bed of short spiky wet black things. I had planned to plant native hollies there.

My question: Do I dig up and plant when the weather changes? Let the stuff finish rotting on it's own?

I could just plant some annuals and wait & see on what has survived. If I plant flowers in the bed this year it will be 4 o'clocks and cleome.
