Pruning after the Frost?

cehh

I can never remember which zone I'm in, but I'm in Chattanooga. Should I snip off the "dead" looking branches on my trees and bushes that were fried in the frost? Some things I've read online say to wait to see if there are any living buds left, while others have said to cut off the "dead" stuff. Any tips would be helpful. Specifically, I have a Japanese Maple that looks the absolute worst. My hydrangeas had just started coming out, so I still I have hope for them. My lilies, hostas, and roses all seem fine. Thanks for your help!
