Those pics aren't nearly big enough to really tell -- but, off-hand, it looks like a peach tree.

The original post on the HGTV forum has a couple of large photos which should be easier to ID.Try once more for me amazindirt.

My guess is a red flowering crabapple.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's an old peach tree. I've got two peaches that bloom that color, and that's what the wood and growth pattern look like close up. Crabs don't have the same roughness or "gnarly" growth.

I'll try to take pics of my peaches this afternoon. They're past blooming, but you can compare the growth.
