Partial Shade Planting...

I've started to train several moonflower vines around a good sized tree trunk growing in the middle of my patio. As these start to come in, I want to plant something to frame them off at the bottom and cover the rest of the soil around the base of the tree.

I'm trying to find suggestions for various leafy plants and flowers that would compliment the vibrant greens leaves of the vines and give it that "built up" feel.

I was thinking of dusty millers and hostas but I'm not sure if both could handle the lighting.
