Rhonda, My first spring swap, the day before just dug mine up and placed clumps in separate bags. Did not put water in them. What color do you have?

They are not as easy to deal with as typical bearded irises, but are still pretty tough. If I was digging them for a swap, I'd probably do like Wanda did and put the clumps in plastic bags. Do get reasonably big clumps, and make sure the soil is lightly moist. They can pout quite a bit if allowed to dry out too much. If they do die back after they reach their new home, they'll still probably come back like gangbusters next spring. I moved a clump last year and thought it was dead (it didn't get the best of treatment). This year it's doing very very well.

Wanda, I just have Caesars Brother but will expand that in the future because I love them. If I could make my way out to the east Ten. swap I bet Brandon has more varieties. Fuel is so high that I am pretty much dug in here for this season anyways. I know they like to be a little deeper and moister than the bearded irise so was not sure on the potting up thing.
