We don't use chemicals of any kind because we are organic, but I can tell you how we reduce grasses and weeds. Mulch is always good because it helps suppress weeds and retain moisture. We are firm believers in companion planting so, we use interplantings of covercrops like crimson clover, calendula, nasturtiums and cosmos. When grasses and weeds start to get out of control we use a garden torch and singe the tops. They die within a day. And of course, nothing works as good as elbow grease. :) Hope this helps!

organic shmorganic. some people don't have the stamina to provide the elbow grease and I very much doubt you could really get rid of bermuda grass with organic methods. I hate to spray chemicals in the garden but there comes a point where someone has to pull out he big guns (chemicals) because they actually work.

a couple years ago myself and two buddies removed bermuda grass (tubers and all) from a 2000+ sq ft area by hand. that was a pretty effective method if you are willing to spend a couple hours a day every day for a few weeks. all in all pretty worth it in the long run.

i've spent the same amount of time the past month picking up rocks from a couple new patches we broke in early march.
the neighbor has a rock rake we're gonna pull behind the tractor for a couple other plots but i doubt that will do the job nearly as well as working by hand. i guess if you have a "real" job you don't have the time (or stamina) for this kind of treatment so instead you could spend all that money you make buying my vegetables at the local market. :)
