| Yesterday afternoon, my daughter and I harvested our beans,at least some of them. Looks like the rest will be ready today and tomorrow. She's 4 now, and even though she's going through a picky eating stage, she took a bite of a fresh bean - so sweet. She was very excited about picking them, and holding onto them, until there were to many for her small hands! The best part for me is showing her the whole gardening experience, talking about bees and seeing her genuine interest in it all. I hope to foster a love of nature and gardening in her, sharing what I learn with her, all of it. Yes, the fresh organic beans we'll be eating tonight are good, but not nearly as rewarding as the experience with her. |
Follow-Up Postings:
|
| You mean she'll know that beans don't originate in cans or bags from the grocery store? What if she tells some of the other kids at school and the word gets out? |
|
| Sounds like she had a good time. Enjoy while you can. |

| Novice, I am so glad for you. I come from several generations of gardeners. It was even my mothers maiden name. I cherish the memories of gardening with my family. Your daughters interest might wane during the teen years but it will remain in her heart. Good for you, enjoy it! |
