Blue Stars are kind of finicky compared to most other Junipers, so you are not alone! You may be able to minimize problems by keeping dead foliage removed and by keeping a close check on soil moisture (mulch may help some with that, if your plants aren't currently well mulched). Blue Stars don't like dry conditions and won't survive where soil stays wet. I've seen healthy looking Blue Stars, but I've seen many more pitiful looking specimens (so, yes, they can be a constant P.I.T.B.)

Thanks for the info Brandon. I'm in the process of developing and redesigning the beds around my house. My experience with Junipers is like you've said. I'm thinking I may take them out this fall. This is a bed next to the house. I'd like something similar in its place. Something blueish. Any healthy suggestions?

What about replacing the junipers with Picea pungens 'Thuem' (P. p. 'Glauca Compacta') / Thume Blue Spruce? the bed has a tendency to be wet.
