Heydee Wanda, It sounds awesome. Is it hardy here?

All the research states hardy to zone 7, north of 7 winter dieback. Can be treated as an herbaceous perennial and cut to the ground each winter in cold areas. It is a deciduous shrub. Also states can be invasive, but have had mine for two years and just one sucker, besides the word sucker to me means "SWAP", LOL!

This is a beautiful bush. There's a big one at Biltmore that I fell in love with. There also used to be one that seemed to have volunteered in a holly hedge at UT, but it got cut out a couple of years ago by the maintenance folks there. :/

I tried to root cuttings off the one at UT, but they didn't take. Poor me!

Propagation listing calls for removal of suckers in autumn or spring and also root semi-ripe cuttings in summer. Will give the cuttings a whirl, keep a finger crossed.

I've only noticed its loathing of dry soil, you'll see the whole plant canopy wilt if the soil gets bone dry (especially in rock hard clay). Id' say its not one you want to be subject to drought.

Wanda's comment about others saying it's invasive is a bit misleading. Yes, it can sucker, but I think most people have a knee-jerk reaction when they hear "clerodendum" and they think of the 3-4 tropical species that can be truly disruptive.

Lovely plant for the South!!!! Makes summer so much more exciting beyond clethra and crapemyrtle!!
