summer cover?

I live in Knoxville but will be out of town for a long period next summer--from late May to early August. I'm working on plans for spring and fall vegetable gardens, but is there such a thing as a summer cover crop that will keep things in shape while I'm gone?

I think there is, here's an article. It's set for NC but should be pretty close to us.

Keep us informed- I never used a cover crop but could use some help with my rocky soil so I'm interested...
