Are they in well-drained soil and full-sun? Are you watering them? Are they heavily mulched? Kniphofia uvaria is pretty sensitive to wet feet (extended periods of wet soil around their root). Dig down into the soil and see what soil moisture is really like. Sometimes moisture levels can be deceptive. I've seen times when I thought for sure my flowerbeds would be dry as a bone, only to find plenty of moisture upon sticking my finger down into the soil.

Until yesterday we have been very dry.Not mulched at all. I have clay soil, so not wet . I don't have a clue. Thanks Patricia

I'm curious where you live. The reason I ask is because it's not been real dry here in the Knoxville area and I hadn't heard of drought problems anywhere in Tennessee so far this year. I should be knocking on wood about now I guess.

Some clay soil can drain fairly well, but drainage can be a real problem in some clay soils.

Here in the middle of Middle Tennessee we've had really,, really dry weather. Mature trees have died. Several of my friends have given up on their vegetable gardens--can't afford to water them with city water. Rotting in the kind of weather we've had would be very strange.
