How are hydrangeas in E. Tennessee?

Hello, folks. I am designing a shade garden for my sister in Kingsport, TN. How do hydrangeas do there? Do flower buds survive the winter on traditional varieties? Anyone have experience with Endless Summer or Blushing bride? Thanks for any feedback you give me.

Is there such a thing as a garden in East TN without at least one hydrangea??

;-)

In a hard winter they might get frozen back, but mostly they do fine. If you are worried, go with one of the everblooming types that will bloom on new wood, or the native oakleaf hydrangea.

Thanks! That's just what I wanted to hear.
