Drought: 3 kinds of trees

Our drought is bad. I'm not sure how it would compare with '07's drought, but trees that looked to have made it through last winter, now look bad.

Across the river, on a bluff, I can see three kinds of trees: those whose leaves are dead and dropped; those whose leaves are turning yellow green in a very unhealthy way and those that are holding their own for now.

Again, it looks as if firewood will be plentiful for the next several years.

I may give up on spring planting at all. At least with fall planting, there's a chance that winter rains will let the plants get established before the nonsense of summer begins.

How's your soil moisture doing?
