Autumn Extravaganza Garden Show in Murfreesboro

Hi all! A few years ago several of us in my local garden club carpooled out to this wonderful garden show. It was just what we needed to get completely motivated to tackle our gardens after yet another harsh summer. We also learned tons, bought some cool plants, and made some new friends within the master gardener community.

Last year there were some seriously gorgeous stuff for sale and some awesome deals. Riverbend had lovely tall maple trees for only $5 each. The Middle TN iris society had hundreds of varieties available, often for only $3! There was a lady who specialized in ferns, another made the most drop-dead gorgeous birdhouses made from salvage architecture, and a guy from Mcminneville selling fruit bushes and trees. And perennials and rare conifers.... Oh yeah:) See you there! ~Heather

MASTER GARDENERS OF RUTHERFORD COUNTY
TO HOST FALL GARDEN EXTRAVAGANZA

Gardening is often associated with spring, but autumn is an ideal time for preparing lawns and planting trees, bulbs and shrubs. The Master Gardeners of Rutherford County will offer help for these projects and more at their Fall Garden Extravaganza.

The event - the only fall garden show in the area - is Saturday, September 24 from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the Lane Agricultural Park, 315 John Rice Blvd. in Murfreesboro.

The Extravaganza is for anyone wanting to plan a new garden or improve an existing one. Seasoned gardeners will provide answers to gardening questions. Live demonstrations include flower arranging, dividing perennials, fall pruning, lawn repair, varmint control, composting and crafting a rain barrel. Vendors will have useful and decorative items and plants for sale.

Throughout the day, various speakers will give expert advice. They include:

-- Tammy Algood, host of TV's "Volunteer Gardener" and cookbook author. Topic: Using and Keeping Your Homegrown Veggies.

-- Mike Berkley, GroWild, Inc., native plant specialist. Topic: Natural Designing with Native Plants.

-- Kevin Guenther, award-winning landscape architect and the founder of The Sustainable Living Guild. Topic: Gardens - The Pathway to Resourceful Living.

-- Mitchell Mote, UT extension agent. Topic: Practical Vegetable Gardening.

Tickets are $5 at the door (under 12 free) and proceeds fund the Dewayne Trail 4-H Fund.
