Any chance of a picture? Crape myrtles do come in many shapes and sizes.

No, Brandon, I didn't get a picture. Seems that I'm always "a day late and a dollar short" when it comes to things like that. I'll do some major research on the Internet to see if I come up with anything close. Thanks for responding.

I'm really bad at guessing stuff like this without more info (my brain just doesn't work that way), but I'll list a few possibilities that you can look up and eliminate. Hopefully, someone can add to the list.

We know they bloom in late summer, survive in full sun, bloom purple, and have blooms someone similar to crape myrtles (at least at a distance).

Buddleia (Butterfly Bush)
Caryopteris (Blue Mist Spirea)
Loropetalum
Spiraea

Brandon, I've looked at lots of pictures of all the suggested shrubs and none look like the color (medium grape purple) but I've had fun and learned a lot while searching so all's not in vain. I emailed the Chamber of Commerce in Pigeon Forge asking if they'll get me in touch with someone who might know. May never hear from them and have to make another trip to PF. I guess I'll live quite well if I never find out but I'm sorta anal about things like this.
