What is this bush? Purple flower late summer

Hi,

Relatively new to TN and don't know what many of the bushes/shrubs/trees are on our property.

I feel we need to move this but would like to know what it is first. It has purple colored flowers, believe they came out in late summer. It is in shade for a large part of the day and I'm wondering if it should have more sun. Also,when we bought the house, they were little foundation plantings but now as you can see (hopefully my pics post correctly, I'm new at that also), I think way too tall to be that close to the house (we need to powerwash behind them!) Thanks.

It looks like Crape Myrtle to me. I agree they need to be farther from the house and full sun.

Definately a crape myrtle. They can be kept small if pruned constantly, but I have mine out in the yard where they have spread to about 6' wide and they are now about 8' high. I've seen some in TX that grow as trees, 15' or more high

Mature crape myrtles range anywhere from 1' to 30' or more depending on variety. Sizes specified, without referencing a particular variety, really has no meaning. It's much better to choose a variety that is appropriate to the location, rather than fighting nature for the life of the tree or shrub.

It looks like an interesting setup for some crape myrtle espalier!

I wonder if crape myrtles have been used like that before? Probably too fast growing to do it properly.
