East TN Cannas in Winter

| So what do you all find as the best way to store you cannas for the winter? (that doesn't require spending money to do so) Just dry them out and box up? Or do they need dirt/moisture? I've got a couple from a swap, and a couple of my own will probably have to be pulled soon. Any suggestions?
Also- I read on here (somewhere) not to pull Canna bulbs until after the 1st hard frost. Does that sound right?
And- side note- I have several Iris bulbs given to me, that I had to plant in pots until I can find space for them. Should I bring these pots inside for the winter, or are they OK on the porch?
Thanks for you advice. I'm a self taught semi-newbie. |

| We bought a house in Sevierville Oct. 2008. There are 4 existing beds of cannas that we never touched over the winter, They all came up just fine with no effort on my part. There may be different varieties that are more cold sensitive thant mine... |
Thanks

Thanks! I was concerned because I planted them fully under the surface in the Spring. But now, I can see several bulbs peeking their little heads above the surface. I'm assuming this is due to new growth. Perhaps a good layer of mulch will do. If yours can survive in Sevierville, surely mine will be OK here in Roane County! :)
