garden helper the Frog

Hi all,

I am in luck as we have frogs. I just heard one singing outside my window this morning. I have seen one down in our damp forest area also. The only above ground water that is near the house is about 1000 ft away. So I would like to help these little guys out with making a happy home for the in my garden. Any suggestions or links to good sites about this? We do have a under ground stream and we plan on digging a small pond. But that is far in the future for now. I would like to do something now to help these guys over winter better.

Whiskey barrels, horse troughs, even deeper plastic storage bins can all hold water. Leaf litter, brush piles, thick foliage, trees with holes provide shelter. Heck, I'm nowhere close to any natural body of water and I found a salamander last year. :-)

Is it a land or water frog/toad? Big round clay saucers make great birdbaths as well as keep toads happy. An upside down flower pot of a good size with a hole broken out of the rim makes a great "toad hall."

I don't have any here, yet. I may go looking for tadpoles in the spring.

Wish we could KEEP our frogs! We have(had) lots but my Jack Russell Terrier keeps killing them all ;-(
