Tomato Seed Germination

I just purchased a cluster of tomatoes on the vine from the local farmer's market, and when I cut them, the seeds had germinated inside the tomato....any ideas on how this can happen? I thought the seeds had to dry...I wonder if the seeds can just be planted at this point.
