My 22 yo son bought that movie last year. He still occasionally sings, "Oh, I'm picking out a thermos for you"! Classic Steve Martin...

A few years ago I introduced my then 17 year old son to Cheech and Chong Up in Smoke. I honestly thought he was going to give himself a hernia from laughing so hard. And then the question came, "were you guys really like that back then?"

My very favorites are:

I re-watch at least one every week.

Sling Blade was truely funny in a funny sort of way and...

"My Name is Nobody" I loved it as a kid but it never appeared on the TV after that.

Last time I checked, The Gods Must Be Crazy was unavailable for purchase. I'll keep trying to get it because it's one film I enjoy seeing over and over. Some of those scenes are hilarious every time I see them. Also, I would like to show it to others who haven't seen it yet.

Surprisingly, I was able to get a DVD of La Grande Bouffe, which is by far the wierdest movie I've ever seen (don't say you weren't warned). I'm amazed there is a sufficient market for a film like that. I wanted it for my very small, select collection of unique films.

Have any of you seen the HBO mini-series "Band of Brothers"?
It has to be the best movie/movies I've seen on WWII. We saw it when we signed up for a free-trial from NetFlix. The funny thing is we ended up getting more TV series from them than actual movies. Just for fun we watched V---anyone remember that? Yes I am a child of the 80's. We also ordered Stargate SG-1. I'm not a giant sci-fi fan like my DH, but I really like Stargate. I also really liked the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
My all time favorite family movie is:
Swiss Family Robinson. We watched that a lot growing up---when movies were made for the whole family. There are some good movies out for kids, but I rarely find a movie that I will enjoy watching several times with my kids. I also like the family movies:

I have three small children so I don't get to watch movies I would choose very often. Usually when I go out on dates with DH we don't go to the movies. At home when we stay up together we never have think ahead enough to rent a movie and end up watching Food Network and folding clothes.

Tyffanie, that sounds like our Saturday night date night. Go out to eat, go to the grocery store, go home and do laundry. I always try to make time to watch The Robe or Ben Hur when they might be on. I made the mistake of forgetting just how long Ben Hur was one Sunday night and didn't make it to bed until 2:00 a.m. A little tough getting ready for work that morning!

There's a sequel to Attack of the Killer Tomatoes????? I have watched Mars Attacks several times for the only reason that the bugler in the funeral scene playing taps is the son of my best friend and my son's best friend.

Dead Again - old mystery/suspense
Polar Express - the spirit of Christmas and I am a kid at heart (thus the love for playing in the dirt)
Dead Poet Society - inspiring
I Am Sam - inspiring/humorous
Dumb and Dumber - my husband laughs hysterically at this movie and (secretly), I just watch it to hear the wonderful sound of his laughter

We just got an incredible movie on Netflix - Baraka....really just music and visuals, filmed by the person who worked on Koyaanisqatsi.

Also, I highly recommend the 10 part series The Decalog, by the person responsible for the Red, White and Blue trilogy - also on Netflix.

Finally - some highly recommended Brit TV series - Upstairs, Downstairs, Pennies from Heaven, and The Singing Detective!

yes, they returned, in Return of the Killer Tomatoes. from a website: "The vegetables of doom return! They're bad and this time they're really stewed!" and a sequel to that.
In terms of really bad movies I can watch over and over with new victims, Plan 9 from Outer Space.

I don't think I have just one favorite. I like many different ones for different reasons.

I have to admit I really love Dirty Dancing and Shall We Dance. The dancing in the movies caught my eye well before I ever started learning to dance. The Horse Whisperer has one of the most sensual scenes in it...all revolving around dancing. *siiigh*

I also liked Dr. Zhivago...and remember seeing it in both German and English with my mom.
