| I'm sitting here with AMC on listening to The Blues Brothers and thought this might be a fun thread to start. I am a devoted fan of James Bond. I've seen them all at least twice. I'm having a bit of a problem with the new Bond being a blond guy. Also, I never miss a good old Cheech and Chong flick. I've also seen all the "spaghetti westerns" starring Clint Eastwood. How about some of you? |
Follow-Up Postings:
| I like spaghetti westerns too. Clint's a great director as well (seen Million Dollar Baby yet?) And, I like just about anything by Kevin Smith (Clerks, Jay and Silent Bob, Chasing Amy, Dogma, etc.) or Quentin Tarantino (Kill Bill vol 1 & 2, Reservoir Dogs). some favorites off the top of my head and in no particular order-- Blade Runner I could go on and on, but that will more than do for now. Heh, no way would I be able to list JUST one. I very rarely watch network/prime time/commercial tv, but I just love movies. Also, Turner Movie Classics rules (sometimes I just like to zone out and watch a few commerical free old movies back to back). AMC is good too, but they advertise.

| Wow Mike! I was thinking earlier this morn of posing the same question to get some chat stirred up here. Three way tie for favorite. On Golden Pond The last one is DBF's favorite, so about once a month or so, we catch at least parts of it...just for fun. I wonder if it is one of the most viewed movies ever, or just why it is that it is 'on' it seems more than any other movie. Any ideas on it? What a great thread for this time of year. The library has lots of great movies, both newer and old, so I'm sure they will have several of those listed here. Sue...who just has a tv antennae. |

| Anybody remember Love Story? For a hoot, I went to watch this movie with the rest of our defensive line on the high school football team. Our plan was to have a good time and maybe poke a little fun. The funniest part was when 5 big strappin' 200-250 pound football players came out wiping their eyes on the sleeves of their letter jackets!! |
| Mike, That's funny! I remember Love Story...with Ali McGraw I think, and remember it was a real tear jerker. Sue |
| Lots of favorites...but a few for now.. Planes, Trains and Automobiles More to follow.. |
| Ahhh, favorite movies! Hands down, The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Next, On Thanksgiving night with the family, with us shouting out the dialog a la Rocky Horror Picture Show; "It's a Wonderful Life" ("merry Christmas to you, in jail") LOL And, of course, chick flicks I like to watch every few months: When Harry Met Sally Plus, tons of others I can't remember! Janie |
| Pink Panther Movies!!!!!!! Worth |
| I like almost all the black and whites on the no commercials movie channels. They are so much fun to hear the old ways of talking, the slang of the day and to see the old moral values of the movie censors back then. I also like most all the John Candy movies, in particular, Uncle Buck. We watch it every time it's on. Jimmy Stewart movies, especially Rear Window. Another one is the old Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We have not seen the newest version, but that should be the next DVD we rent for a cold Nebraska night. Cary Grant movies are fun also; I like The Bishop's Wife and North by Northwest. It sounds like my picks are more my favorite old actors rather than my favorite movies. The Bond movies are almost getting to be like RHPS, we can almost say the dialog along with the movie. Sean Connery is the best followed by Roger Moore. The rest were not James Bondish enough. We'll see if the newest one measures up or is a dud. When we got the Western's channel, I was glued to the set on my days off. Now all my days are all off and there are no westerns to watch.( my choice so I keep busy working on the house) |
| I didnt see it so I will add these in: "Kentucky Fried Movie" I also saw "The Jerk" on the other night and it's still very funny. For some reason I have always liked several war genera movies like "Force 10 from Navarone", "Kelly Hereos", and "Bridge over the River Kwai". I will stop what I am doing to watch "A Christmas Carol". The one that stars Alastair Sim as Ebenezer in B&W (1951). |
| OH Spaghetti westerns "My Name is Nobody" "When you're up to your nose in s***, keep your mouth shut." |
| Hmm... series: Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, The Lord Of the Rings, Harry Potter (although I didn't like the last one so much), X-Men, Spider Man Comedy: Monty Python and the Holy Grail, The Princess Bride, Spaceballs, History of the World Part I, Life of Brian, Dogma Animated: The Incredibles, The Lion King, Finding Nemo, The Last Unicorn, Watership Down, Ice Age, Shrek 1 & 2, Treasure Planet, Titan AE (can you tell I'm a big animation geek?) Everything else: The Green Mile, The Shawshank Redemption, Top Gun, Dances With Wolves, When Harry Met Sally, Gladiator, Maverick, Batman Begins |

| Singing In The Rain Swing Time Forbidden Planet Almost any silent actually (Lumiere Frere) but Metropolis is exquisite. I was fortunate enough to see that in a theater, wow. |
| In addition to several old classics such as Casablanca, An Affair to Remember and African Queen, I really like these less well known ones which are unlike any other movies I know of: Black Orpheus Also, I like funny movies. Anything by Peter Sellers, Steve Martin or Rowland Atkinson makes me laugh. My favorite line from The Jerk is "Oh boy, the new phone books are here!!!!". Pretty good list for a guy who "never" goes to movies, eh? Jim |
| chemocurl< Yes, I believe Shawshank Redemption must be the most viewed/aired movie ever. At least it seems that way because you can catch it on at least once a month. Favorites: Stand By Me- "skin it" Goonies- "Me sloth...you Chunk!" Enter the Dragon- "Wooooooaaahhh!" The Never Ending Storey- "The Nothing is coming!" Dune- "Without change, something dies inside us. The sleeper must awaken!" and of course: Star Wars I-VI, Lord of the Rings trilogy, Conan movies, Pulp Fiction, and Strange Brew- "Take off you hoser!" |

| "I also saw "The Jerk" on the other night and it's still very funny." My 22 yo son bought that movie last year. He still occasionally sings, "Oh, I'm picking out a thermos for you"! Classic Steve Martin... |
| A few years ago I introduced my then 17 year old son to Cheech and Chong Up in Smoke. I honestly thought he was going to give himself a hernia from laughing so hard. And then the question came, "were you guys really like that back then?" |
| My very favorites are: Matrix I re-watch at least one every week. Sling Blade was truely funny in a funny sort of way and... "My Name is Nobody" I loved it as a kid but it never appeared on the TV after that. Greg |

| I can’t believe you guys haven’t put (Schindlers List) on the list or (The Gray Zone.) I will have to put it there myself. Or (The Last Picture Show), "come now, an all time great. Or Splendor in the grass, a real tear jerker, with the poor boy that was not good enough for the rich girl. Rebel without a cause. Slaughterhouse 5 or 7? Don’t leave out all of the independent films with unknown actors that don’t want an arm and leg to be in the things. (The Gray Zone is one.) Check out Smoke Signals! The Walton’s was based on the book Spencer’s mountain where the folks were not as NICE as the Walton’s were and a movie was made too. Gods little acre, Cat on a hot tin roof, (Jane Fonda) can go to China as far as I’m concerned and get her toenails pulled out, She caused the deaths of POW’s in Vietnam, "we have proof. Ok back to the movies!!! 10 years in Tibet (was it ten years?) ANY WC Fields movie. What about all of those old Bob Hope movies? Some like it hot, with Marilyn Monroe and Tony Curtis and some more greats. Horse feathers with the Marx brothers (SP?) They hired some thugs from a speak easy to play collage football. The list will grow my friends and I don’t like a movie with all of the special affects that hides poor acting and even worse story lines. Full Metal Jacket The first half of the movie is what we went through in Marine Corps boot camp at last darn close. The second making of the Shinning that Steven King did. Any thing with, Ann Margaret A real Swedish babe she is and been married to the same man for years, no trash on her, that I know of. Clint Eastwood in The Pale Rider. Fried Green Tomatoes TOMATOES I SAY T O M A T O E S!!!!!!!!!!!! GREEN TOMATOES FRIED GREEEEEEEEEN TOMAAAAAATOES!!!!!! Driving Miss Daisy was great too. Later Worth |
| One of my funnier movie moments was when my (blonde) wife and I were leaving "Last of the Mohicans" and she turned to me and said "that was really good. someone should write a book on that movie" I have never seen so many heads turn like Nipper, the RCA dog.
hey Barb is that the kind of thermos with strips and it's own cup? |

| I really like, in no particular order... Colors If I'm channek surfing and run across one of these, I have to stop and watch it to the end. That all I can think of tonight. carolyn |
| Madplanter, Last time I checked, The Gods Must Be Crazy was unavailable for purchase. I'll keep trying to get it because it's one film I enjoy seeing over and over. Some of those scenes are hilarious every time I see them. Also, I would like to show it to others who haven't seen it yet. Surprisingly, I was able to get a DVD of La Grande Bouffe, which is by far the wierdest movie I've ever seen (don't say you weren't warned). I'm amazed there is a sufficient market for a film like that. I wanted it for my very small, select collection of unique films. Jim |

| Have any of you seen the HBO mini-series "Band of Brothers"? It has to be the best movie/movies I've seen on WWII. We saw it when we signed up for a free-trial from NetFlix. The funny thing is we ended up getting more TV series from them than actual movies. Just for fun we watched V---anyone remember that? Yes I am a child of the 80's. We also ordered Stargate SG-1. I'm not a giant sci-fi fan like my DH, but I really like Stargate. I also really liked the Lord of the Rings trilogy. My all time favorite family movie is: Swiss Family Robinson. We watched that a lot growing up---when movies were made for the whole family. There are some good movies out for kids, but I rarely find a movie that I will enjoy watching several times with my kids. I also like the family movies: Seven Brides for Seven Brothers The Sound of Music I thought Holes was really good too. I have three small children so I don't get to watch movies I would choose very often. Usually when I go out on dates with DH we don't go to the movies. At home when we stay up together we never have think ahead enough to rent a movie and end up watching Food Network and folding clothes. Tyffanie |
| Tyffanie, that sounds like our Saturday night date night. Go out to eat, go to the grocery store, go home and do laundry. I always try to make time to watch The Robe or Ben Hur when they might be on. I made the mistake of forgetting just how long Ben Hur was one Sunday night and didn't make it to bed until 2:00 a.m. A little tough getting ready for work that morning! |

Thought of Amadeus in bed last night, Spinal Tap and Best in Show this morning. also A Fish Called Wanda with the remarkable Mrs Christopher Guest, my 2 fave Monty P'ers and the devine Kevin Klein. Jennifer, who also enjoyed JLC in True Lies which had a palatable, gasp-choke, Governator in it |

| There's a sequel to Attack of the Killer Tomatoes????? I have watched Mars Attacks several times for the only reason that the bugler in the funeral scene playing taps is the son of my best friend and my son's best friend. |
| Dead Again - old mystery/suspense Polar Express - the spirit of Christmas and I am a kid at heart (thus the love for playing in the dirt) Dead Poet Society - inspiring I Am Sam - inspiring/humorous Dumb and Dumber - my husband laughs hysterically at this movie and (secretly), I just watch it to hear the wonderful sound of his laughter |

| We just got an incredible movie on Netflix - Baraka....really just music and visuals, filmed by the person who worked on Koyaanisqatsi. Also, I highly recommend the 10 part series The Decalog, by the person responsible for the Red, White and Blue trilogy - also on Netflix. Finally - some highly recommended Brit TV series - Upstairs, Downstairs, Pennies from Heaven, and The Singing Detective! Craig |
| yes, they returned, in Return of the Killer Tomatoes. from a website: "The vegetables of doom return! They're bad and this time they're really stewed!" and a sequel to that. In terms of really bad movies I can watch over and over with new victims, Plan 9 from Outer Space. Joe |

| I don't think I have just one favorite. I like many different ones for different reasons. I have to admit I really love Dirty Dancing and Shall We Dance. The dancing in the movies caught my eye well before I ever started learning to dance. The Horse Whisperer has one of the most sensual scenes in it...all revolving around dancing. *siiigh* I also liked Dr. Zhivago...and remember seeing it in both German and English with my mom. ~Heidi |
